WHEREAS, groundbreaking for the new High Line Trail is another step in solidifying Mason City’s reputation as “the new outdoor recreation capital of the Midwest”; and
WHEREAS, this builds a third pillar to Mason City’s standing as a worldwide destination for architecture lovers and its national stature among music fans; and
WHEREAS, Mason City’s downtown renaissances is now serving as a model for other communities and drawing visitors from across lowa; and
WHEREAS, Mason City was recognized with the Main Street lowa “Game Changer Award” and became the only city in lowa to be named an “All-America City” finalist highlighting these accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Mason City’s distinction as a destination for architecture, music and now outdoor recreation is already generating tourism with annual spending of more than $100 million; and
WHEREAS, tourism is a key industry that benefits local businesses, leads to economic growth and fosters mutual understanding; now
THEREFORE, I, Bill Schickel, Mayor of Mason City, do hereby proclaim the month of May, 2023 as,
Tourism Month in Mason City
and express the gratitude of the entire community for the great Visit Mason City team and all who daily roll out the red carpet for friends, family and our many welcome visitors from near and far.
