Tamia Brown, a sophomore studying Human Development & Family Studies, is one of the directors in charge of Cyclone Cinema. Brown began her involvement with SUB by volunteering her time to help with events, whether it be stacking chairs or having to stand for two hours. She has also served as the Multicultural & Awareness co-director on the SUB executive board.
As a director, Brown works with Cyclone Cinema co-director Spencer Lamar to plan the semester’s movie schedule. According to Brown, she and Lamar “look at what movies are releasing soon, try to find out when it will be available for streaming, then work with programs to purchase the rights to show the movies.” Cyclone Cinema tries to offer free showings of popular movies before they debut on streaming services.
Brown stated that she loves directing Cyclone Cinema because of all of the reactions she receives from viewers.
“Some people love them, others cry or have funny commentary about [the movies],” Brown said.
Brown shared that her favorite memory while working as co-director of Cyclone Cinema, has been seeing the showing of “We Live In Time” in February.
“A few others and I were laughing and joking about the possibility of us crying during the movie. We ended up bringing a box of tissues just in case,” Brown said.
Brown encourages anyone interested in SUB to join because of the community and variety of opportunities available without committing a large amount of time. Brown shared that she was able to meet a few friends and have experiences that were great as a resume builder.
