DES MOINES, Iowa — The Fourth of July falls on a Thursday this year, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop once the holiday is over.

Local 5 rounded up five events happening in the Des Moines metro this weekend to help you keep the good times going.

You-Pick berries and flowers

  • When: Friday, July 5 through Sunday, July 7, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
  • Where: Wilson’s Orchard & Farm (3201 15th Ave., Cumming)
  • Price: $5 for admission, plus price of item
    • Kids two and younger get in free

Get a taste of summer by picking your own produce at Wilson’s Orchard & Farm. Pick raspberries and blueberries and cut your own fresh flowers to create a bouquet. The farm will also have Michigan Cherries and Michigan Blueberries available for purchase.

First Friday: Celebrating Latin art and culture

  • When: Friday, July 5, 5-8 p.m.
  • Where: Mainframe Studio (900 Keosauqua Way, Des Moines)
  • Price: Free

It’s the beginning of a new month, which means there’s another First Friday event to attend! This month, Mainframe Studios is celebrating Latino art and culture. The event will feature art, food trucks, piñatas, lowriders and art activities designed and organized by artists Seso Marentes and Siricasso.

Sips & Songs at The District

  • When: Friday, July 5, 6-10 p.m.
  • Where: The District at Prairie Trail (SW District Dr., Ankeny)
  • Price: Free

If you didn’t get enough fireworks over the July 4 holiday, here’s your chance to see some more.

Sips & Songs will feature performances by Standing Hampton and special guest Corbett Reeves, followed by fireworks and a silent disco. 

Beaverdale Books birthday celebration

  • When: Saturday, July 6, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Where: Beaverdale Books (2629 Beaver Ave., Des Moines)
  • Price: Free to attend

Happy 18th anniversary, Beaverdale Books! The local bookstore is celebrating by asking customers to partake in some 18th birthday-specific activities, including getting a (temporary) tattoo, voting (for your favorite bestseller) and registering for a draft (for a chance to win a gift certificate). Guests can also enjoy food and drink, a BOGO sale on select hardcovers and more.

  • Where: Jordan Creek Town Center Amphitheater (101 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines)

There’s more than shopping at Jordan Creek Town Center. Head over to the amphitheater to listen to Suede perform, or enjoy the free concert from one of four lakeside patio restaurants.
