The Student Government Senate passed corrections to both a contract with Student Legal Services and a constitutional amendment to include contract term limits during their meeting Wednesday.
The bill titled Constitutional Amendment To Add Contract & Agreement Lengths II was introduced after the previous bill mistakenly amended “Article II Section A Point 12 rather than Article II Section A Point 4,” according to the order.
“Please vote yes and let this end,” Sen. Noah Kammeyer said regarding the amendment, receiving laughter from several senators.
The error prevented the amendment from being voted on during the general 2025 Student Government election. The measure passed unanimously and can be approved by the student body during a special election.
Additionally, Student Government and Student Legal Services signed a five-year contract in FY 2024, but there was a clerical error in accounting for their move to a new space in the Memorial Union.
“So what happened was that deficit of $4,758 was discovered in September of last year after an audit of the yearly amounts,” Michael Levine, a Student Legal Services attorney, said. “This is just to correct the payment to the MU to make sure they got the full amount of rent.”
The contract was amended and re-ratified by the Senate in a unanimous vote.
Additional measures
The Senate also tabled $3,000 for food for the Korean Student Association’s Korean Culture Festival, which is on April 20.
Sam Perez, a first-year agronomy major and vice president of health and safety for Theta Chi, was proposed as an at-large member of the PR and the Health & Wellness committees.
“I have a passion for mental health and PR,” Perez said. “I want to join Student Government because I believe I can make a change.”
Perez had previously attempted to fill a role in the Senate, however, there were no constituency seats available. The Rules Committee thought this would be the best alternative.
Senior Director of Communications Erik Braun, a senior in mechanical engineering, and the Director of Health & Wellness, Adam Herrington, a senior in kinesiology and health, both support Perez in this position. Others spoke up and showed their support as well.
“I have worked with him before; I know him as a person,” Off-Campus Residence Sen. Jake Snyder, a senior in public relations, said. “Whatever he gets involved in, I know he will see through.”
The order was passed by way of unanimous consent.
