Even though the first day of classes was moved online due to the cold, events on campus are still available for the remainder of the week.
The Memorial Union will be hosting art exhibitions, crafts, pottery, Cyclone Cinema and WelcomeFest.
The schedule is as follows:
Jan. 21 to 24:
- 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Selections from the Memorial Union Permanent Collection, located in the Memorial Union Art Gallery.
- 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., Drop in Craft Cottagecore Mushrooms ($11 in studio/ $15 to go), located in Workspace.
- 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., Paint Your Own Pottery Mug (price varies on the piece), located in the Workspace.
Adding to the schedule of events, Cyclone Cinema will be showing “The Wild Robot” from Jan. 23 to 25 at 7 p.m. in Carver 101.
The Jan. 25 event times will change as follows:
- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Drop in Craft Cottagecore Mushrooms ($11 in studio/ $15 to go), located in Workspace
- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Paint Your Own Pottery Mug (price varies on the piece), located in the Workspace
In addition to these multi-day events, the bi-annual WelcomeFest will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 in the Memorial Union’s Durham Great Hall. Attendees will have the opportunity to receive free food and swag and learn more about local Ames businesses.
Despite the frigid temperatures, Iowa State Athletics will continue to host wrestling, women’s basketball and gymnastics events this week.
The joint “Beauty and the Beast” event, featuring simultaneous gymnastics and wrestling meets in Hilton Coliseum, will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 24.
Iowa State Women’s Basketball will face off against the UCF Knights at 4 p.m. on Jan. 25 in Hilton Coliseum.
The sports-filled weekend will end with Iowa State Cyclones Wrestling vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys Wrestling at 4 p.m. on Jan. 26 in Hilton Coliseum.
For those seeking a good laugh, comedian and TikTok star Matt Matthews will perform “Boujee on a Budget” at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at Stephens Auditorium.
The same day, in Beardshear Hall, the Iowa State Singers will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m.
Finally, the Brunnier Art Museum will host the “Curators Tour of In Conversation: Will Wilson” from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 26.
