Cyclone women’s golf team recap
The Cyclone women’s golf team opened its fall season on a high note at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They tied for third overall while sophomore Pammy Chookaew captured the individual title with an impressive 54-hole performance.
Chookaew fired rounds of 69, 67 and 72 to finish at five-under-par (208) on the University of Michigan Golf Course. Her second-round, 67, was tied for the lowest score of the tournament and helped her pull away from the field en route to her first collegiate victory of the 2025-26 season.
“It just looks like she’s having fun every single time,” Iowa State women’s golf coach Christie Martens said in the preseason.
The Cyclones showed flashes of consistency throughout the tournament. Freshman Isabella Yan tied for 16th after carding rounds of 73, 72 and 76 to finish at +8. Nichakorn Pinprayoon was just two strokes behind at +10 (75-72-76).
Reigning Big 12 Champion Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn posted rounds of 75, 77 and 78 to finish at +17, while senior Keeley Marx rounded out the Cyclone lineup at +19 (80-73-79).
The third-place finish adds to the program’s strong history under Martens, now in her 22nd season. For Chookaew, the victory continues her rise after winning the Iowa Women’s Amateur in August.
Though a third-place finish was a strong way to open the season, the Cyclones slipped slightly on Monday’s final round. Every member of the lineup outside of Chookaew dropped at least seven spots on the individual leaderboard, highlighting the difficulty of the course down the stretch.

1 Kent State (+17)
2 Virginia (+23)

The Cyclones return to action later this month in Norman, Oklahoma, for the Schooner Fall Classic on Sept. 20.
