Two people were killed and one injured Saturday evening when a pickup truck crashed into a UTV in rural Humboldt County.According to the Iowa State Patrol, Theodore Prenger and Teresa Prenger, of Dakota City, were riding a UTV south on Michigan Avenue north of Humboldt around 5:15 p.m. The UTV failed to stop at the intersection with 170th Street, where Terry George, of Hardy, was driving southbound in a 2004 Ford F-250. That number is 21 fewer than at the same point in 2023. Over the last five years, an average of 350 people have been killed in statewide crashes annually. So far this year there have been 11 ATV/UTV deaths. That number is one less than all of 2023. A common factor the state patrol sees in deadly UTV crashes is victims not wearing seatbelts. They also warn that UTV crashes happen on paved roads just as often as gravel ones.
