The Cyclones women’s golf team opened their season Monday at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in Lake Elmo, Minnesota. In all, 12 schools took part in the tournament, with South Carolina dominating at 31 under par, while Iowa State finished eighth at 10 over.
Play opened Monday with the first round, and continued with round two Tuesday and the final round Wednesday.
Strong start in round one
Iowa State started the competition with a strong round one. The round ended with the team six under par, at a score of 276.
This score put them in third place, trailing a tie for first place between South Carolina and Wake Forest.
The team’s strong start was led by junior Karisa Chul-ak-sorn, who ended the day in a tie for second place at five under par.
Cyclones fall in round two
Despite a strong start for Iowa State, its momentum did not continue into the second day of play. The day ended with the team all the way down to seventh place.
Their round two score of 302 was tied for the worst score of any round for any of the 12 present teams. None of the Cyclones’ five golfers finished the round with a score under 70–a stark contrast from the first round of play.
Iowa State finishes eighth
Iowa State could not return to form by the end of the competition. The final round ended with a team score of 290 and a cumulative score of 874 for all three rounds. This resulted in the team slipping to eighth place.
None of the Cyclones golfers finished within the top 10 of individual performers, with the highest-placing golfer being junior Pammy Chookaew, who finished in a tie for 16th place.
