AMES – In the final home meet of the season, Iowa State took a victory and a loss during the Tri-Meet.
The Cyclones took a 195.775-195.000 victory over No. 18 North Carolina State. Ultimately, Iowa State took second place due to the 196.750-195.775 defeat against No. 19 Denver.
Overall
The meet opened on vault, where the Cyclones collectively tied for first place overall with a 49.200 total score. Iowa State tied with Denver.
In the remainder of the events, the Cyclones took the second-place spots. The overall scores were 48.850 on uneven bars, 48.675 on beam and 49.050 on floor exercise.
Senior Josie Bergstrom Te-Slaa also took second place in the all-around competition.
Bouncing back from a tough loss last weekend, Iowa State found a place to rebound and show out for the final home meet.
“It feels really good, I mean especially our last opportunity this year at home in Hilton, senior night, to kind of go out with a bang and really put a really good meet together,” head coach Ashley Miles Greig said.
Now that the rebound is complete, the future is the focus for this team.
“I think that this is definitely a confidence builder as we continue on,” Miles Greig said. “This is gonna definitely help us in our pursuit of making the postseason.”
Individual stars
With the best event for the Cyclones being vault, sophomore Noelle Adams earned a 9.9. With this score, Adams tied for second place individually.
On uneven bars, freshman Frederique Sgarbossa led the team with a 9.825 and placed seventh in all individual bar scores.
With back-to-back 9.825 team-leading scores, Iowa State continued to conquer. Bergstrom Te-Slaa tied for second place individually in all beam scores with three opposing gymnasts with a 9.825 score.
Adams rebounded from her first team-leading score and took a first-place tie on the floor to close the night. Her individual score was 9.875, as she tied with a Denver gymnast.
Following close behind Adams on individual floor scores was Freshman Haylee Hardin. With a 9.850, Hardin tied for third place individually.
Hardin’s collegiate start has been nothing short of dazzling as the season heads towards its end. The future of the Cyclones and Hardin looks to continue to be impressive.
“I feel very grateful for this team and this opportunity, and honestly, I’m very excited for the rest of this season,” Hardin said.
Senior recognition
Four seniors were honored in Iowa State’s final home meet of the season. These seniors have shown the dedication and perseverance to lead the team throughout the season.
Bergstrom Te-Slaa, has come up big multiple times throughout the season, along with being selected to be a part of the 2025 Big 12 Preseason Team for her vault routine.
Bergstrom Te-Slaa has also competed in every meet throughout her four years with the Cyclones, showcasing the pure dedication she has contributed to this team.
“We really just came out here to have fun, enjoy the fans, and put on a show,” Bergstrom Te-Slaa said.
As Bergstrom Te-Slaa reflects on her final moments at Hilton Coliseum, she looks to continue to push for greatness throughout the rest of the season.
Senior Hannah Loyim, who competes all around, has had quite the career at Iowa State. In her junior year, she was the only gymnast to compete all-around for the Cyclones.
Loyim has helped pave the way to set high standards for all-around gymnasts this season.
Senior Emma Ricks, who competes in vault, uneven bars, and beam, has faced adversity throughout her time with Iowa State. Ricks only competed in one meet prior to this season due to injury.
Despite these challenges, Ricks has supported her teammates all season long. With a 9.825 on bars, she should be proud of where she has gotten this season.
The final recognized senior is Rachel Wilke, who competes in vault, balance beam and floor. Wilke has had a comeback worth mentioning.
She only competed in five meets her freshman season and was out her sophomore year, but Wilke made a huge impact in her junior season. Carrying on to Wilke’s senior season, she has been a constant contributor to the Cyclones’ success.
Following a victory over NC State but a defeat against Denver, Iowa State focuses on the Cy-Hawk series ahead.
The Cyclones are set to face the Hawkeyes in Iowa City at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The meet will be streamed live on Big 10+.
