Doubles trouble

Minnesota started the match by taking the doubles point with wins from the No. 1 and No. 3. Iowa State won No. 2 6-2 with the doubles pairing of senior Anna Supapitch Kuearum and freshman Mari Paz Alberto Vilar.

After losing the doubles point, the Cyclones would need to win four out of the six singles matches. They fell just short by winning three.

Not enough in singles

In singles, the Golden Gophers struck first winning the No. 4 spot 6-2, 6-4. Kuearum kept Iowa State competitive, taking the No. 2 6-4, 6-2.

Minnesota took No. 3 6-4, 6-3 and No. 6 6-3, 7-6 closing out its victory. Iowa State got late wins from freshmen Suzanie Pretorius 6-1, 1-6, 6-2, and Julia Camblor 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in the No. 5 and No. 1 spots respectively.

Despite the loss, it was another strong showing from this young Cyclones team. This match also saw the return of Kuearum, who missed the first two meets of the season. Her return will greatly help Iowa State, as she is the No. 64 ranked women’s singles player in the country.
