The Cyclone swim and dive team lost to Iowa 215-84 Friday. This is the second year in a row the Hawkeyes have won the Cy-Hawk meet.

Iowa State now falls to 2-2 on the season, with the loss to Iowa being the largest defeat.

The first event was a sign of how the meet would end up. Iowa controlled the meet from start to finish winning 15 of 16 events.

Despite the loss, there were some bright spots. Graduate student Winter Craig won the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.29) for Iowa State’s lone win of the meet and finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (55.83).

Freshman Anja Peck built off her strong performance in the Hawkeye Invitational. She placed second in two events, the 100-yard breaststroke with a personal best time of 1:03.91 and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.97).

Junior Corinne Guist placed third in two events, the 1000-yard freestyle (10:16.79) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.65).

Entering the meet, diving was viewed as an area Iowa State could excel.

In 1-meter diving, freshman Maggie Bendell qualified for NCAA zone qualifiers for the first time this season, with a score of 266.05 and a fourth-place finish. Junior Kate Mitchell followed and just missed zone qualifiers with a fifth-place finish and a score of 264.45

For 3-meter diving, Bendell had a season-best score of 279.15 but missed zone cuts with a third-place finish. Junior Ally Blumenfeld followed in fifth (268.25) and Mitchell in sixth (266.65).

Iowa State will have a few weeks off before the Georgia Diving Invitational, which takes place from Jan. 3-5 in Athens, Georgia.
