The Iowa State Fair begins one week from Thursday. One of the most popular things to see is the Butter Cow.The sculptor, Sarah Pratt, stopped by Des Moines’ Central Library on Monday to teach 74 people how to make sculptures from butter. All of the creations are being recycled to help create the Butter Cow this year.That Butter Cow ends up being 600 pounds of butter on a wood, metal, wire and steel mesh frame. That’s enough butter to butter about 19,200 slices of toast.In addition to the Butter Cow, a companion sculpture also graces the Agriculture Building coolers.Last year included Iowa basketball stars like Caitlin Clark.
