From country to alternative, Hinterland did it all. Festivals this size draw in a large crowd of listeners with diverse listening preferences. 

Rebecca Black

Known for her single debut “Friday,” that caused an internet sensation in 2011, Rebecca Black stole the stage with an alluring and engaging performance.

“She went out there and I lost my mind, the entire time I was so engaged and I didn’t even know the songs but I was like, this is an awesome set,” Luke McMillin an attendee from Cedar Rapids, IA said.

Tyler the Creator

It was a well known fact that a lot of attendees on Friday were looking forward to experiencing Tyler the Creator in concert.

Tyler made waves while being perched on top of a large white cube displaying the phrase “don’t tap the glass” across the front. His solo dance moves and high energy rap was intense and impressive.

Clairo

Clairo opened her show with class as she and her band drank wine nonchalantly on the steps of the stage

“The highlight of the weekend has been Clairo for me, she definitely charmed me, that’s her thing, Clairo charm,” Carter Picker, an audience member from Cedar Falls, IA said.

Bleachers

This American rock band, formed in 2013, had nearly every audience member jumping on their feet. The electric tunes were undeniable and some audience members even said it had the “most crowd involvement.” 

Glass Beams

As the only instrumental band, Glass Beams was mesmerizing to say the least. Their sound echoed throughout all 200 acres of Hinterland’s grounds. 

“I really loved Glass Beams, I would buy another ticket to go see them,” Mallory Waigand, an audience member from Afton, IA, said.

Lana Del Ray

Last but certainly not least, Lana left Hinterland completely stunned. It’s obvious she is a team player— from set design, background vocalists, dancers and orchestra, they created more than just a concert, but a production. 

“She is the poet laureate of our generation,”Josh Fleming, a fan who came to Hinterland only on Sunday to see Lana live, said.
