In its final dual of the regular season, No. 12 Iowa State won a 21-18 thriller over No. 25 Missouri, winning six of the 10 dual matchups.

Jumping ahead early

A win by Iowa State sophomore Ethan Perryman got the dual started at 125. Perryman won a 7-4 decision over Missouri’s Gage Walker.

Following Perryman, the Cyclones recorded two more decisions and a win by fall to extend their early lead 15-0.

Wrestling in place of sophomore Evan Frost, sophomore newcomer Garrett Grice recorded the start at 133. Grice won by fall over Missouri’s Kade Moore, securing the first dual victory of his career.

At 141 and 149, two familiar faces, sophomore Jacob Frost and redshirt sophomore Paniro Johnson, entered the lineup for Iowa State. Extending his win streak, Frost defeated No. 16 Josh Edmond by a 9-8 decision. Johnson followed suit, winning a 4-1 decision over Missouri’s Logan Gioffre.

Things get scary

After pulling ahead 15-0, Iowa State discovered how fast a large margin can shrink.

After a 9-3 decision over Cyclone sophomore Cody Chittum, No. 15 Cam Steed and No. 1 Keegan O’Toole won back-to-back matchups by fall. Steed defeated redshirt sophomore Aiden Riggins and O’Toole’s win came over senior Cade Schmidt.

Riggins lost in 3:31 and Schmidt in 6:24.

Rebounding late

Following a 15-15 margin in the team standings, Iowa State won two matchups at 184 and 197. At 184, senior Evan Bockman won a 1-0 decision over No. 9 Colton Hawks. Bockman’s win was the second top-25 win of the dual and came against the only top-10 opponent in the Tigers lineup.

The deciding factor came at 197 in a matchup that featured sophomore heavyweight Nate Schon. After missing the dual against Northern Iowa, Schon recorded a 4-2 decision win over Missouri’s Jesse Cassatt.

With the dual results cemented, one final match took place. Freshman Daniel Herrera stepped up for Iowa State but fell short of a win. Herrera’s loss came by a 9-3 decision.

Following its dual with Missouri, Iowa State gets set for the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, from March 8-9.
