Menopause 2 The Musical, Mar. 9, 2024.

Menopause The Musical 2: Cruising Through ‘The Change’” is coming to Ames. On Sunday, the sequel to “Menopause The Musical” will take the stage at Stephens Auditorium.

The latest installment reunites the audience with the four women who met in a department store in the original musical, now boarding a cruise ship. Each woman represents a different background, from a professional woman to a soap opera star, an Iowa housewife and an Earth Mother.

“Menopause The Musical” debuted in 2001 and became a hit, running over 1,500 performances and performing in over 500 cities worldwide. The sequel has been long awaited, which continues the story with a new setting and musical numbers.

The show is a blend of humor, music and relatable experiences. The website describes it as a “Trip of self-discovery, backed by a new soundtrack of toe-tapping parodied hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s.”

The women bond over the shared experience of menopause – hot flashes, mood swings and memory lapse while singing. The story offers a lighthearted yet heartfelt take on aging and friendship.

“For these four ladies, menopause was not the end, but the beginning of a beautiful friendship where love conquers all, and friendships never fail,” the website states.

Tickets start at $35, but rush tickets are available to students discounted for $20. The show is 3 p.m. Sunday.
