Student Government unanimously approved funding for Best Buddies and passed an order to recommend faculty to end outside-of-class exam taking on Election Day during Wednesday’s Senate meeting. 

The Senate approved $525 in funding for Best Buddies. The club is a university-sponsored, non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by giving them new opportunities for one-on-one friendships. 

The funds will cover conference expenses for craft supplies and food for their monthly chapter meetings and the Best Buddies Leadership Conference at Indiana University-Bloomington. 

Sen. Noah Kammeyer, a sophomore in political science, introduced an order to recommend faculty to end outside-of-class exam taking on Election Day, which passed with a vote of 26-0-3. This order would recommend that testing centers close on Election Day and that faculty not schedule exams outside of class. 

Other business

Sen. Maddie Reinhardt, a sophomore in animal science, was seated on the sustainability committee.

Sen. Maria Dugan, a Ph.D. candidate in analytical chemistry, was seated on the health and wellness committee. In Dugan’s absence, Sen. Hemanthsai Peddasani, a sophomore in software engineering, said she would be a valuable committee member.

“She has already shown her commitment by attending our Thursday meeting last week and being a part of our SafeRide meeting with Chief Newton,” Peddasani said. “She has shown her commitment to be a part of something that she is not directly involved in yet.” 

Ren Moyer was seated as an at-large health and wellness committee member. 

“After working in a hospital for two years, I know I haven’t seen it all, not that I want to, but it did give me a unique perspective on the importance of health. Not just physical, but mental too,” Moyer said.
