Redshirt freshman Christian Carroll was awarded Big 12 Wrestler of the Week after an impressive collegiate debut for the then-No. 6 Cyclones.

Carroll took down No. 20 Stanford’s 13th-ranked Nick Stemmet in the 197-pound weight class. This win catapulted Carroll from unranked to No. 13 in the 197 class.

Carroll wasted no time in impressing the Cyclone faithful, as he quickly racked up two takedowns in the first period and had a reversal and takedown in the second period to comfortably take down Stemmet 11-7.

This is Iowa State’s 58th time being awarded Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors, which places the Cyclones at second most in Big 12 history.

The No. 11 Cyclones will be back in action at 7 p.m. Friday when they take on Navy in Hilton Coliseum. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
