If you’ve ever thought about getting an Ames Public Library card, now is a convenient time to do it. Throughout the month of Sept., the Ames Public Library (APL) Bookmobile bus will be parked at its usual spot in the turnaround area between Parks Library and Morrill Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Thursday. You can browse the current book selection inside the bus and register for a free APL card.
The Ames Public Library is an outlet to expand your horizons as a student, staff member or citizen of the community.
“The public library offers streaming services, study rooms, technology to digitize photos, slides and videos and materials for all ages,” Ames Public Library’s community engagement specialist Susan Gent said. “The APL is on the [CyRide] Red Route, so it’s easy to find downtown.”
By registering this month, students are eligible to spin the prize wheel at the truck to win books, snacks, stickers, gift cards and more.
“The Bookmobile makes it easy for me to place a hold on books online and pick them up on campus,” Lauren Byers, a senior in human health and development and owner of her own library card, said. “An APL account also comes with an audiobook subscription and access to a selection of movies and TV shows as well.”
With all of the above benefits, an APL library card takes students even further than access to Parks Library and is a helpful way to switch up the study scene.
To get a library card, you need to bring a photo ID and proof of your Ames address (such as a piece of mail or virtual proof of lease) to the Bookmobile bus on campus any Thursday this month. Even out-of-state students can use their temporary Ames address to be eligible for a free APL card.
The Bookmobile bus is hard to miss. Next time you see it, take a minute to stop in and explore the opportunities of owning your own APL card.
