Thanksgiving break is on the horizon and students and CyRide staff are preparing for limited bus schedules over break.

Rob Jennings, administrative analyst and transit scheduler for CyRide, explained the change in daily ridership over break.

“An average weekday ridership per day is a little above 30,000,” Rob Jennings, administrative analyst and transit scheduler for Cyride, said. “Over break, it’s going to be around 5 to 6,000 rides per day, so it drops off significantly. That’s how much of an impact students have riding the bus, which is great.”

Jennings explained that updated break bus schedules are available on the CyRide website.

Cyride.com has an updated break schedule for Thanksgiving, winter break, and then they’ll post another one for spring break as well. It tells you what days we’re running what services, For example, Friday after Thanksgiving is a Saturday break schedule,” Jennings said.

Mohammed Albalawi, a first year in accounting and an international student, explained that he had a quick adjustment to riding the bus.

“When I first came here, it took me a couple days just to know how to use the apps, like Ames Ride, but yeah, after a while I got used to the timing of the bus,” Albalawi said.

Even with limited hours, Albalawi finds that having access to the bus over break is still helpful.

“I think it’s good that there are going to be a couple buses on campus. It will be great if I want to do something around campus,” Albalawi said.

According to the Cyride website, there are routes with modified operations and some that will not run at all.

“[There will be] no service on #7 Purple, #12 Lilac, #21 Cardinal, or Moonlight Express during this break period. Additionally, #25 Gold operates a modified route between Schilletter Village and ISU campus.”
