Brock Purdy
The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 36-24, and Purdy might have had his best game of the season.
Purdy went 18-for-28 for 255 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, with a quarterback rating of 129.3, his second-highest of the season.
His favorite targets in the game were wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who hauled in three catches for 102 yards and a touchdown, and tight end George Kittle who caught five passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns.
This win brings Purdy’s record to 4-0 all-time against Seattle and moves San Francisco into first place in the NFC West with a 3-3 record.
David Montgomery
To say that this was a good weekend for Montgomery would be an understatement.
On Saturday, it was reported that Montgomery had signed a two-year contract extension worth $18.25 million with $10.5 million guaranteed, putting him on contract through 2027.
On Sunday, Montgomery ran the ball 12 times for 80 yards and two touchdowns en route to the Detroit Lions’ blowout over the Dallas Cowboys 47-9, which puts the Lions at 4-1.
This was Montgomery’s fifth consecutive game to start the season with a rushing touchdown, becoming the first player in Lions history to do so.
His streak didn’t start at the beginning of the season, though. It goes back to Week 16 of last season, bringing his streak to a total of eight, which is also a franchise record.
His performance leaves him in third place in the NFL for rushing touchdowns with six and 14th in rushing yards with 351.
Breece Hall
Speaking of former Cyclone running backs having a great week, Hall had by far his most productive game of the season, despite the New York Jets’ 20-23 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Prior to Monday night’s matchup, Hall had struggled mightily over the past three games, as he failed to find success both in the rushing and passing attack.
In Monday night’s game against Buffalo, Hall had a season-high 113 yards rushing on 6.3 yards an attempt after rushing for just 84 yards combined over the previous three games.
Hall also caught five passes for a season-high 56 receiving yards, nearly matching his total of 57 receiving yards over the previous three games.
The New York Cyclones (Jets) need to turn things around quickly though, as this loss brings their record to 2-4.
Allen Lazard
Despite New York’s loss, all of the former Cyclones on the Jets played well and Lazard is no exception.
Lazard caught six passes for 114 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown came from a 52-yard hail mary from quarterback Aaron Rodgers as the clock expired in the first half.
Lazard’s performance brought his season stat line to 354 yards and five touchdowns on 26 receptions. His five receiving touchdowns are tied for the most in the NFL, and his 354 yards are good for 21st in the league, ahead of notable names such as Tyreek Hill and Amon-Ra St. Brown.
This had been the best start to a season in Lazard’s seven-year career, but it will be interesting to see what his role in the Jets offense will be moving forward with the addition of former Green Bay Packers teammate and six-time pro bowler Davante Adams. Hopefully, he still holds a prominent role in the offense going forward.
Will McDonald IV
McDonald kept up his breakout sophomore season with a sack and a forced fumble with two tackles on Monday night. His sack brings his total to seven on the year, tying him with New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II for second in the NFL.
The only player that McDonald is trailing is Detroit standout pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson, who is expected to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a leg injury in the team’s win against Dallas.
McDonald’s forced fumble was his second of the year, tying him with multiple other players for third in the NFL.
The start of the season has been a huge success for McDonald and he will have to continue to perform at a high level to try to help the Jets get back to their winning ways.
