Siblings from Clive take top spots in singing contest at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, Iowa

Five children, ages 7 to 11, competed in the Iowa State Fair‘s children’s singing contest at Pioneer Hall Wednesday morning, filling the venue with the sound of young voices.

Sloan Robson from Clive won first place with her performance of “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman. Her younger brother, Hendrik, took second place. Sloan said she placed second in the contest last year, which motivated her to return and compete again this year.

“I have a piano teacher who also does vocals, and I go to a lot of musical camps,” Sloan said.

Hendrik shared his pride in his sister’s achievement.

“It’s great that my sister got first place,” he said. “Even though I didn’t win it, I’m glad it’s still my sister.”
