AMES – No. 59 Iowa State lost to No. 26 Arizona State 4-0 at home Sunday. 

The Cyclones are now 0-5 all-time against the Sun Devils. The last match was in 2011, with Sunday’s match being their first as conference opponents.

Arizona State’s No. 79-ranked doubles pairing set the tone early. 

Sara Svetac and Karin Altori beat Iowa State freshmen Julia Camblor and Mari Paz Alberto Vilar 6-1.

On court No. 3, Sun Devils Emilija Tverijonaite and Aiya Nupbay secured the doubles point. They topped Iowa State freshman Suzanie Pretorius and sophomore Valeska San Martin Ramirez 6-3.

In singles, Altori and Arizona State continued to dominate. Altori scored the first win on the fifth court, beating Pretorius 6-1, 6-2.

Nupbay notched the second victory. She won 6-2, 6-1 against Ramirez on court No. 6.

To close out the match, No. 27-ranked Tverijonaite beat No. 97-ranked senior Anna Supapitch Kuearum. At the top spot, Tverijonaite won 6-4, 6-3.

Despite the sweep, the unfinished matches were very close. In one match, Iowa State freshman Cristina Ramos Sierra was up 7-5, 5-2. 

Iowa State looks to bounce back against UCF in Orlando at 5 p.m. Friday.
