Sophomore guard Killyan Toure suffered a shoulder injury at Damian Lillard’s elite camp Wednesday, according to Travis Hines from the Des Moines Register. The timetable for Toure’s injury is unknown at the moment.
Prior to the injury, head coach T.J. Otzelberger had told the media that Toure had dealt with a shoulder injury earlier this offseason.
After Tamin Lipsey and Joshua Jefferson left college for the NBA and Milan Momcilovic transferred to Kentucky, Toure was slated to be heavily relied on this season for Iowa State.
Toure averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists on 46% from the field and 31.3% from three-point range his freshman season. Hopes for Toure to make a jump offensively this winter could be in jeopardy following the injury.
Toure is at his best on the defensive end and formed one of the best defensive backcourts in college basketball with Tamin Lipsey last season. Toure has the ability to guard anyone on the perimeter and is capable of picking up the ball from full court.
He recorded 1.5 steals per game, good for ninth in the Big 12, and helped Iowa State to the fifth-best defense in the nation, according to KenPom.
Jaquan “Bully” Johnson and Jamarion Batemon fill out the backcourt alongside Toure and could be in line for more playing time. Ryan Prather Jr. is another player who may provide depth.
