Actor Javier Bardem has spilled some details regarding his return as Stilgar in Dune: Messiah, AKA Dune 3. Denis Villeneuve, the director of the trilogy, confirmed the threequel in an interview in October 2024. Additionally, the filmmaker revealed that Dune: Messiah is still in the writing stages and the filming might begin in 2026.

Javier Bardem doesn’t know if Stilgar will return in Dune: Messiah

Javier Bardem’s portrayal of the Fremen leader, Stilgar, in the two Dune movies has garnered immense praise from the audiences.

With work on Dune: Messiah commencing, Variety decided to have a chat with Bardem. While the conversation focused mainly on the actor’s recently released animated movie, Spellbound, he decided to share his thoughts on Stilgar’s future in Dune: Messiah. He also highlighted that he is uncertain about his inclusion in the third part.

Bardem told the outlet, “I know that I’m in the book, so I should be in the script. If I’m not, I will be very angry and I will let him (Denis Villeneuve) know. I will go to Canada.” He further praised Villeneuve and added, “I totally love him. I adore him. Whatever he wants, and whatever he decides, it will be fine for me. Absolutely. He’s one of a kind. He’s an extraordinary human being. Such a loving man, fun, funny as hell, and a real worker.”

The Oscar-winning actor also revealed how his son was amazed to see him in Dune: Part 2, which came out in March. However, he complained that he wasn’t involved in any sword fighting. Javier Bardem dropped in a request he had from Villeneuve and asserted, “I have another demand for Denis Villeneuve. If there is such a thing as Dune: Messiah, please give me just a little sword fighting that I can show it to my kid.”
