Iowa State took down Portland State 10-0 in five innings on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Abby Huhn gave up one hit in a complete game in the circle.
Huhn had a career game, as she was on perfect game watch until Portland State sophomore Lorraine Alo hit an inconsequential single in the bottom of the final inning. The effort was as close to perfect as it could be without reaching the mark.
Junior Sydney Malott had a banner day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Senior Angelina Allen had two RBIs and a home run, marking a great game for Allen.
The Cyclones came out hot in the first inning when Allen hit a deep ball to center field for a two-run home run. Junior Tatum Johnson then brought in Malott with a double to left field to bring the lead to 3-0 in the top of the first.
The Cyclones added three runs at the top of the second following a critical error by the Vikings, with an RBI for freshman Jessie Clemons and another deep solo home run by Malott.
Junior Reagan Bartholomew brought in Clemons in the fourth inning with an RBI single as the Cyclones poured it on to take a 7-0 lead.
Following an error by Portland State bringing in a runner to make it 8-0 in the top of the fifth, Malott hit a single, bringing in two runners. The RBIs would make it 10-0, ending the game via mercy rule after a short bottom of the fifth inning.
The Cyclones will take the field at 10 a.m. Sunday against No. 3 Florida in Iowa State’s toughest test of the season up to this point.
