The Greenbelt Music Festival is an outdoor music festival featuring national and local live entertainment. Enjoy an outdoor stage, games and activities, amazing food, tasty beverages, vendors, an indoor stage, and more.

Saturday, May 17
Spring Art in the Garden, 2701 Cumming Ave., Cumming
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday
Cost: Free
Celebrate spring with Ted Lare Design Build Inc. in its outdoor garden space. This event features more than 35 talented artists showcasing a variety of mediums, including ceramics, paintings, jewelry, decor, woodwork, screen art and more.
Food trucks will be on-site, and live music will play throughout the day.
Ankeny Art Center Arts Festival, 299 SW Maple St., Ankeny
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
Cost: Free
The festival will transform several streets of Uptown Ankeny into a vibrant celebration of creativity and artistic expression. It will feature fine art vendors working in mediums such as painting (acrylic, oil, pastel, etc.), ceramics, woodworking, jewelry, mixed media, metal works, glass, digital and many others.
Sunday, May 18
Valley Junction Arts Festival, Fifth Street, West Des Moines
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday
Cost: Free
The Valley Junction Art Committee has redefined art in Valley Junction. Its primary focus is the juried exhibition of fine arts and crafts, giving the public the opportunity to meet, interact with and purchase original work by artists. Over 50 artists from Iowa and beyond will take over Fifth Street. Live entertainment will be part of the festivities as well. Art activities and artists’ demonstrations will take place throughout the day. Refreshments will be available from several food vendors on the street, and many Valley Junction restaurants and retailers will be open as well.
Greater Des Moines Community Band concert, 1626 18th St., West Des Moines
7 p.m. Sunday
Cost: Free
Join the Greater Des Moines Community Band for its first concert of the summer season. This year, the band is playing the works of composer John Williams, who is known for his work scoring movies like “Star Wars,” “Jurassic Park,” “Home Alone,” “Jaws” and “Saving Private Ryan.” All concerts are outdoors.

The Des Moines Biergarten at Water Works Park has opened for the season. Enjoy a family-friendly atmosphere, beer, food and live entertainment every Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.

Renaissance Faire at Sleepy Hollow, 4051 Dean Ave., Des Moines
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
Cost: $25 weekend pass; 12 and under free. Parking is $5.
Spend your day exploring the weathered renaissance village hidden within the hills and forests of Sleepy Hollow. The live, interactive performances include jousting, falconry, acrobatics, fire stunts, music, armored combat and more.
