In an eventful weekend at the Arkansas Invite and BU Terrier Classic, the Iowa State men’s and women’s track and field teams are headed home with more than just respective bragging rights and top-10 finishes.

Record mile finishes

Starting on Friday, the women competed at the Razorback Classic in Fayetteville, Arkansas, highlighted by a new school record in the mile by junior Maelle Porcher, who ran a 4:35.91 and finished 13th overall.

Porcher’s performance was complemented by senior Silas Winders on the men’s side, finishing under four minutes for the second time this season. Winders’ mile time of 3:58.36 earned him a spot among the Cyclones’ best runners at fifth in program history.

Shot put finishes, 4×400 chaos

In the second event of the Arkansas Invite, senior Cam Jones made his first appearance this season with a fourth-place finish ahead of teammate Blake Veenstra. Jones’ 18.87m mark was enough to top Veenstra’s 18.16m mark.

Much of the same came in the 4×400. The Cyclone women recorded the sixth-fastest indoor time in program history, with a time of 3:39.88.

Among the Cyclone runners, junior Rachel Joseph ran the fastest split with a 50.91, only 0.45 seconds behind Arkansas, posting a 3:27.47.

Fast times in Boston

On the men’s side in Boston, freshman Robin Kwemoi Bera ran the 5,000m in 13:41.76, the ninth-best at that distance in school history.

Ahead of Bera, Track Club Kiprun runner Jimmy Gressier placed first with a finish of 13:00.51. Bera’s finish was good enough for 31st and was his personal record for the 2024-25 season.

Both teams are back in action Saturday, returning home for the Iowa State Classic.
