James Gunn has recently mentioned when we might get to finally know more about the upcoming Superman 2.
What is the latest release date update on Superman 2?
In a recent back-and-forth with fans on Threads, Gunn opened up about the process of writing the sequel to Superman. Gunn revealed he was currently partaking in Peacemaker Season 2 press runs, while also writing the “sequel” to 2025’s Superman.
When a fan asked if this film was still the film that isn’t specifically Superman 2, Gunn confirmed it was, saying the film was “not Superman 2,” but once again reiterating that Superman has a “major role.” When another fan asked when we might get confirmation on the official details of the project, Gunn said we were still “a ways off.”

Gunn has previously indicated that there will be a sequel to Superman; however, he’s also stated that the follow-up will be “a little different than what one might expect.” There have been no further details regarding what this might mean; however, Gunn has said that it won’t be another Batman vs. Superman and it won’t be a World’s Finest film featuring Batman.
There’s been no official word about when Superman 2 might be happening or how it will play into the rest of the DCU. The film does not have a release date at this time.
As of now, it remains unclear if the next film Gunn does will end up being all about Superman. It seems that the film won’t be a direct follow-up to 2025’s Superman, but Gunn does know exactly how important David Corenswet’s Superman is to the DCU as a whole.
