Directed by Gareth Edwards, “Jurassic World: Rebirth” picks up five years after “Jurassic World: Dominion,” in a world where dinosaurs have been pushed to controlled habitats and the global panic has cooled.
When a small research team led by Zora Bennett, played by Scarlett Johansson, returns to Isla Nublar on a mission tied to medical innovation, things, of course, do not go as planned. The past is never really buried, especially when it is made of prehistoric bones.
Their objective is to secure rare genetic material from dinosaurs, whose DNA holds the potential to unlock life saving treatments for humanity. However, as the top-secret expedition ventures deeper into the island’s wilderness, the team uncovers a sinister secret that has been carefully concealed for decades.
Johannsson is the standout character of the movie. She brings intellect and grit. She balances action hero energy with genuine emotional weight, giving the story a strong human center.
Jonathan Bailey plays paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis with thoughtful restraint, while Mahershala Ali adds grit as a former Military officer turned field commander.
Together, this trio leads a compelling ensemble, mixed with the human survivors, that brings the human drama to life. The story dives into themes of scientific ambition, ethical boundaries, and the unintended consequences of resurrecting creatures from the past.
From each Jurassic franchise movie, the dinosaurs are as breathtaking as ever. Whether it’s the towering return of the Mosasaurus or the introduction of the new species like the Mutadon, every creature is rendered with stunning detail.
The cinematography soars in jungle scenes and nighttime confrontations, and Alexandre Desplat’s swelling, emotional score ties it all together with both tension and wonder.
Still, like every Jurassic installment, “Jurassic World: Rebirth” can’t help but lean into a few familiar tropes. From a child in peril and a shadowy corporate villain to the obligatory last minute evacuation and a dramatic dinosaur showdown in the rain. None of these elements fall flat, but they do not break new ground either.
But even with its familiar beats, “Jurassic World: Rebirth” delivers where it counts. The action is exciting, the visuals are spectacular and the casts bring real energy to the screen.
It may not reinvent the wheel, but it is a well worth ride, especially for fans who still get a thrill from the rumble of approaching footsteps and the roar of a T. Rex. For a franchise known for spectacle and survival, “Jurassic World: Rebirth” proves there is still plenty of life for these dinosaurs.
