The Iowa State Cyclones split up this weekend as they competed in three different meets. The Iowa Open in Iowa City, the Arkansas qualifier in Fayetteville, Arkansas and the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Indiana.
Iowa Open
The men’s 60-meter hurdles showed out in Iowa City. The Cyclones took home three of the top five finishes and had three runners set new personal records.
Junior Alec Carr took home first place with a new personal best time of 7.81 seconds. Coming in third place was sophomore Grayson Hartman with a time of 7.96 seconds which set a new personal best for him. Placing fifth was freshman Joseph Purbrick, who also set a personal best with a time of 8.15 seconds.
Arkansas Qualifier
Iowa State had a strong showing in the men’s 800 meters. The Cyclones placed high and set new personal and season bests.
Junior Emanuel Galdino placed first and set a new personal best for himself at 1:47.02. Senior Dugion Blackman came in fourth with a time of 1:47.38. Senior Leroy Russell III also put up a season-best time of 1:48.80.
Alex Wilson Invitational
The Alex Wilson Invitational didn’t see many Cyclones make the trip, but the ones that did found success.
The women’s distance medley race was the best event for the Cyclones on the day. The Cyclone team, featuring juniors Maelle Porcher, Makayla Clark, Rachel Joseph and freshman Becca Heitzig, took home first place on the day with a time of 10:55.31.
The Cyclones will look to continue the momentum next weekend at the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships in Lubbock, Texas.
