The Iowa State men’s golf team was hard at work in California this week at The Prestige at PGA West. The men competed against 23 other schools nationwide over three rounds. 

After the first round, the Cyclones were led by sophomore Dianchao Wu, 2-under-par, placing him 14th of all golfers. The team as a whole was in 16th place overall.

Day two saw the Cyclone leaderboard get switched around as junior Paul Beauvy took the team’s lead, shooting one over par. Senior Luke Gutschewski also jumped Wu from day one after a 1-under-par performance compared to a 5-over-par from Wu. The Cyclones dropped one place overall to 17th.

The final round started with freshman Luke Metcalf. Beauvy led at the end of the day again with a 1-over-par performance, only to be slightly outdone by Metcalf, who shot par on the day. This brought Beauvy to two over par for the three-day event. The rest of the team found a way to tie each other at 7-over-par.

Beauvy placed 46th overall, while sophomore Owen Sawyer, Wu, Gutschewski and Metcalf all placed 68th. The Cyclones finished 19th out of the 24 participating schools at a collective 14 over par.
