The Memorial Union will host Iowa Public Radio’s “Politics Day on the Road” show on Thursday.

Ben Kieffer, host of IPR’s talk show “River to River,” is bringing the show’s weekly politics panel to the MU at 6 p.m. in the South Ballroom. The goal of the panel is to capture the voting perspectives of college students as the election approaches.

Kieffer will be joined by co-host Cleo Westin, a senior in journalism and mass communication and editor-in-chief of the Iowa State Daily.

One of the panelists is Karen M. Kedrowski, a professor of political science and director of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics.

Early in-person voting begins Wednesday in Iowa, and voter registration will be available to attendees during the event thanks to the “CyclonesVote” program provided by the Catt Center.

According to the ISU Events Calendar, the event is aimed at “young voters – considered to be swing voters,” or people who are more likely to have not yet made up their minds on who they’re voting for.

By encouraging students to listen to the differing perspectives of their peers, Kieffer aims to help young, likely first-time voters form a clear and concise opinion regarding how they plan to cast their vote in the coming presidential election.
