Proclamation

           WHEREAS, groundbreakings for the new River City Riverwalk, High Line Trail and Destination Iowa Bike Park are major steps in solidifying Mason City’s reputation as “the new outdoor recreation capital of the Midwest”; and

           WHEREAS, outdoor recreation is a third pillar to Mason City’s standing as a world-class destination for architecture and music lovers; and

           WHEREAS, Mason City’s downtown renaissance has resulted in millions of dollars in new investment in our community and drawing visitors from across the Midwest; and

           WHEREAS, Mason City was recognized with the Main Street Iowa “Game Changer Award” and became the only city in Iowa to be named an “All-America City” finalist highlighting these accomplishments; and

           WHEREAS, Mason City’s distinction as a destination for architecture, music and outdoor recreation is generating tourism with annual spending of more than $100 million; and

           WHEREAS, tourism is a key industry that benefits local businesses, leads to economic growth and fosters mutual understanding; now

           THEREFORE, I, Bill Schickel, Mayor of Mason City, do hereby proclaim the month of May, 2024, as

Tourism Month in Mason City

           and express the gratitude of the entire community for the great Visit Mason City team and all who daily roll out the red carpet for friends, family and our many welcome visitors from near and far.
